Guest Speaker Spencer Christian

On Tuesday, January 26, 2016, Spencer Christian, father of Brimmer’s Director of Diversity and Middle/Upper School Associate Director of Admissions, Jessica Christian, was the guest speaker in a special Middle and Upper School assembly celebrating MLK Day and upcoming Black History Month. Mr. Christian, who was raised in rural Virginia, talked to students about growing up in the south as an African American during the 1950s and 1960s and his subsequent career in journalist and broadcasting. His talk focused on the adversities he faced as a young person and how he was able to navigate through obstacles during the Civil Rights Movement to reach his dream of working as a journalist. Mr. Christian’s visit also included speaking with students in the Upper School journalist class as well as an informal gathering with faculty and staff.
