Swimmer Liam Conklin

Liam Conklin started swim lessons when he was very young. At six years old, he joined the Newton town team. At eight years old, he joined his first club team. Liam enjoys the thrill of the race and the challenge of beating his own time. He finds support from teammates and friends as well as support from other teams.

Liam dedicates 20 hours a week (on average) to swimming. In addition to swimming in the pool, Liam and his team complete strength and conditioning training. Liam has helped his team win age-group championships as well as relays. His favorite stoke is freestyle.

Liam's sister has been a large influence on his success. "I grew up watching my sister swim, and I thought it was something that looked like a lot of fun," he says. "One of my favorite memories involving swimming was at Amherst College. My sister was in her freshman year and won the NESCAC championships against Williams College. Williams has almost always won, so it was inspiring to watch her help her team win the championship for the first time."

Liam has competed in Florida and New York for championship meets. He finds inspiration from his coach, Alex Cronin. "He has been very helpful in making me better and improving my weaknesses. My coach motivates me to do the best that I can. He is a very big part of my life." As for future swimming endeavors, Liam plans on swimming competitively in college, and eventually he is hoping to make it all the way to the Olympic Team Trials.
