After School Clubs

Enhance your child’s academic, creative, and scientific experience by registering your Lower School student for an After School Club. 

  • Clubs are open to all Lower School Students and begin the week of January 22, 2019
  • Each club will run for one hour, one day per week from 3:15 pm – 4:15 pm unless otherwise noted.
  • Any child enrolled in a club is welcome to remain at school, in the extended day program between LS Dismissal and 3:15 pm.

Spring 2019 Offerings

Hooray for CLAY!
When: 10 Wednesdays: Jan 23, 30; Feb 6, 13, 20, 27; March 13; Apr 3, 10, 17
This club will run from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm each week.
Grades: 2 – 5

Imagine & Move
When: 10 Wednesdays: Jan 9, 16, 23, 30; Feb 6, 13, 20, 27; Mar 13; Apr 3
Grades: Pre K – Gr. 3

Returning to Brimmer with her unique program, Brenda Callahan will brighten each hour using various instruments and noise-making items blending music, play, movement, and joy!
 
Forest Explorers
When: 8 Tuesdays: April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; May 7, 14, 21
Grades: 1 - 4

Less than a mile from Brimmer, Houghton Garden is a ten-acre fenced wild garden with paths that wind around a stream and a small pond. Rain or shine, children and teachers will walk to Houghton Garden and spend time exploring, relaxing, playing, and learning in nature. With our philosophy adapted from the European Forest School model, children will experience sensory-based learning opportunities in our natural environment. There will be a balance of child-led and teacher-directed activities geared toward the ages and interests of the group.
Please dress your child for the weather! We will be exploring rain or shine!
 
Chess-NUTS!
When: 8 Thursdays: Jan 24, 31; Feb 7, 14, 21, 28; Mar 7, Apr 4
Grades: 1 - 5
Teacher: Ted Barker Hook, Brimmer US History Teacher
Fee: $175
Learn to play or hone your skills. Join us for an hour of Chess. Face off against your peers and learn the art and skill involved in Chess. 
 
Cooking with Older Kids
When: 5 Thursdays: Jan 24, 31; Feb 7, 14, 21
Grades: 2-5
Teacher: Brimmer Head Chef Michael Sconce
Fee: $125
Kids, come get your hands deliciously dirty with Brimmer’s own Chef Michael Sconce. From snazzy snacks to basic baking, your child will have fun in the kitchen while learning about nutrition and basic cooking techniques. All products are nut-free (please contact Cassie with further allergy related questions).
 
Mini Cooks - Session ONE
When: 3 Tuesdays: Jan 22,29; Feb 5
Grades: Pre K – Gr 1
Teacher: Brimmer Head Chef Michael Sconce
Fee: $75
Join us in this Cooking Club for our youngest chefs: Pre-K, K and 1st graders welcome. Chef Michael Sconce (head chef at Brimmer) will be teaching students to experiment with different foods, and methods of cooking food. All products are nut-free (please contact Cassie Abodeely with further allergy related questions).
 
There will be TWO SESSIONS of Mini Cooks: please sign up for only one of the two to ensure all children who would like to participate will be able to. Preference given to children who have not attended other mini-cooks sessions. If space remains, the club will be open to any children who wish to do both sessions.

Sam’s Gaming Club
When: 6 Wednesdays: Jan. 23, 30; Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27
Grades: 3 – 5
Teacher: Tom Schmottlach will oversee this club which will be run by Sam from Grade 5
Fee: $120 (gaming materials provided)
 
Brimmer 5th grader, Sam, is spearheading this gaming clubs for experts and novices who want to play or learn to play Dungeons & Dragons, Catan, and Forbidden City. Sam says, "I don’t believe afternoons should be all about homework. This club is going to be an opportunity for students to gather and play fun games with their friends. These games will require communication, collaboration, and creativity. So get ready to game on!" Sam is a self-proclaimed geek. He enjoys Star Wars and Dungeons and Dragons. He spends most weekends playing board games with his friends at home. He is excited to do this club because he wants to bring this fun to Brimmer and May.
 
Mr. S’s Rock Climbing Trip - Friday, Jan 25
When: Friday, January 25 from 3:10 – 6:30 pm
Grades: 1 - 5
Teacher: Tom Schmottlach
Fee: $120
 
Join Brimmer 5th Grade Teacher Tom Schmottlach as he travels to Central Rock Climbing Gym in Watertown to spend a few hours climbing the rock walls! This is a one-time trip on a Friday after school. Students will leave school at approximately 3:15 pm and return to the Brimmer LS by 6:30 pm. In order to participate, each child's parent or guardian must sign a waiver online. A link to the online waiver will be provided within two weeks of the trip.
 
Children should ONLY register for one trip to ensure all who want to participate can. If spots are available, registration will be open to repeats!
