New Lower School Playground
Introducing our amazing Mugar Family Playground and Outdoor Learning Space! The new Lower School Playground makes the best use of the land and incorporates a water element, apple trees, a wooden amphitheater, raised garden beds, a play structure, a mound for sliding and running, a tricycle track, and an athletic play area. It is designed intentionally to take advantage of outdoor space for recreation as well as an extension for learning.
Water Element — Students become true engineers as they design water dams, particle sifters, and wild water obstacles courses. The long curved path allows our novice designers the opportunity to experiment and observe the fun and unique properties of water flows.
Apple Trees — These wonderful apple trees will soon provide delicious honey gold apples for students to enjoy. Our Early Childhood Education program will observe the seasonal changes and collect the apples when they delve into their study of life cycles.
Wooden Amphitheater — Our students were meant for this stage. At any given time, you might find student written plays being performed here for fellow classmates during recess. You might see and hear avid singers and imaginative story tellers captivating their audience. Campfire gatherings are also a common sight!
The Mugar Family Playground and Outdoor Learning Space was named by Jennifer Elizabeth Mugar '88 in honor of her grandparents Stephen P. and Marian G. Mugar, her father, David G. Mugar, and her three sons, Peter, William and Matthew Flaherty all of whom appreciate the value of receiving an education that includes creative resources.
