2018 PIN Awards
Parents' Independent School Network (PIN) has awarded Brimmer's Lower School with three Special Recognition Awards for the following community service projects: 1st Grade 100th Day Store Project, 2nd Grade Thank You Letters to the MSPCA, and 4th Grade Hurricane Relief.
For the first grade 100th Day of School celebration, students had a 100th Day Store. Each child was given 100 pennies (donated by parents) with which they could “buy” an item of food to donate to the GBFB. The students created subtraction sentences, and the remaining pennies were then put in a basket to donate to “Pennies for Puppies” for the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
Fourth grade students were motivated to help people who were impacted by the 2017 hurricanes. They wrote and presented a skit to their fellow students to educate them about the importance of helping others in need. Money was raised through three break- the-dress- code days in November: Hat Day, Wear your PJs to School Day, and Crazy Dress Day. Participants donated $1 to break the code for each day that they chose to participate. All proceeds benefited Americares.
Second grade students learned about the importance of the MSPCA and their mission to help abandoned animals. The students wrote thank you letters for the MSPCA to send out to their donors who contribute money monthly or annually. Because of the donors, the MSPCA is able to provide medicine, toys, food, emergency surgeries, and much more to the animals waiting to be adopted. The letters were also a way for the second graders to learn how to write friendly letters and give students the opportunity to get involved in our local community.
