Gators win a tight one

The varsity boys soccer team picked up an important win over league rivals Boston Trinity in a ding-dong battle that ended with a score of 5 - 4. The Gators dominated the early play and could easily have been ahead, but they found themselves down a goal when the defense failed to clear the ball. Brimmer tied it up with a goal from Sevak Glorikian ’23, who ran onto a beautifully weighted ball over the defense from Olivier Khorasani ’20. The Gators took the lead when Quinton Nsamba ’21 drew in three defenders and then played a ball into the path of Brian Barrera ’22 who a shot into the top corner of the goal. Less than a minute later, the game was tied with a fluke goal for BTA. With less than two minutes to play in the first half, the Gators again found themselves down by a goal. Again the lads dug deep and found the equalizer just seconds before the halftime whistle. Paxton Wong ’20 sent a long ball from just outside his own eighteen that was perfectly measured to find Sevak running into the BTA eighteen. With just the keeper to beat Sevak kept his cool and slotted home the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.
The second half, started brightly for Brimmer and they had a lead five minutes after the restart. Tristan Durocher ’21 played a ball across the top of the box and Brian hit a onetime shot from just outside the eighteen past the diving keeper into the bottom corner of the goal. Brian completed his hat-trick in the final ten minutes, this time Sevak earned the assist with a nicely weighted pass. Brian took the ball in his stride, took a couple of dribbles and again sent a low shot into the bottom corner of the goal. The two goal lead did not last long, however, as thirty seconds later BTA scored another fast break opportunity. The final five minutes were quite tense as BTA threw everything at the Gators, but the lads were up to the challenge and earned the win.
