Gators get a shut out at Home

The girls’ varsity soccer team had a good week of practices, focusing on a new defensive formation in preparation for the game against Penguin Hall Academy. Leni Hicks-Dutt, Emma Guevara, Iris Bishins, Jazzy Lang and Kayla Pierre were composed, well organized, and worked hard to keep the Penguins out of the Brimmer defense. Elisabeth Fitzgerald put one away early, about 5 minutes into the first half, off a well-played cross from Sophia Horning. Kaylee Little held down the midfield and found the back of the net about 20 minutes into the half; another assist from Sophia Horning.

The second half continued much like the first. The Brimmer defense continued to work well and shut down the Penguin forwards. Haleigh Jacobs scored her first goal of the season on a great pass from Sophia Bruno.

Grace Pappas made 11 saves and Maddie Pogoda made 2, earning the Brimmer shutout.

The Gators move to a 2-1 record and face Waring School on September 29th at Orr Field.
