Kass Advances to National Finals
Marlie Kass '23 participated in her 3rd Shakespeare Competition, sponsored by the Boston Chapter of the English Speaking Union. She was a regional finalist in that round (her second time being a finalist), and then she participated in the State Finals held over zoom. Competing against 7 other finalists from around Massachusetts, Kass won the competition with her rendition of a soliloquy by Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing from Act 4, Scene 1 “Is he not approved in the height a villain” and Sonnet 31 “Thy bosom is endeared…”. In addition, she was asked to give a cold reading from All’s Well That Ends Well, reading Helen’s Act I, Scene 3 speech, “Then I confess.”
If the National Finals will be held in person, Marlie will compete at Lincoln Center in NYC on Monday, April 25, 2022 for an array of scholarships and prizes.
Creative Arts Department Chair Bill Jacob says, "We have hosted a Shakespeare competition since 2000. Marlie is the first Brimmer student to be finalist and the first to win the Regional competition."
