LAUNCH POINT Leadership in Action is a Boston-area program designed to teach students entering grades 8-10 how to be global citizens and ethical leaders. Participants will learn about successful group dynamics and practice leadership skills with their peers from around the world. In addition to participating in skills-based workshops, the students will practice ethical decision-making in group activities around the Boston area and with their peers in the Launch Point: An American Experience Program.

LAUNCH POINT helps students build their character and leadership skills through a unique combination of:
  • Interactive team-building experiences and hands-on team projects
  • Understanding a greater sense of how empathy guides decision-making
  • Identifying strengths to help develop a personal voice and self-awareness
Students will participate daily in hands-on activities addressing concepts such as effective communication and active listening skills, synthesizing information, taking initiative, and developing action plans. Through these workshops, students will exercise empathetic and ethical decision-making as it applies to relevant topics such as civic engagement.

Through this unique and innovative program, students will develop the skills needed to become confident and effective 21st century leaders. Daily activities will emphasize topics such as collaboration, strength of character, creativity, and mindfulness as the program ushers its participants through this dynamic curriculum.

Participants act as peer leaders throughout the program to a group of students participating in the Launch Point: An American Experience Program. Leadership students will have opportunities to put their newly developed skills into action as they collaborate with students from around the world to complete projects and solve problems.

Each participant will be assigned a Family Group of 4-5 students, and these groups will meet at the beginning and end of each day to introduce and debrief the skills and activities of the program. These groups help build a sense of community and encourage group bonding.
Through field trips and outings, the program takes advantage of many of Boston’s amazing offerings such as high ropes courses, rock walls, and a variety of museums.
