GATORS BEAT BY MEADOWBROOK, 4-1

The Gators looked to maintain their sterling record, traveling to Weston on a rainy afternoon to take on a perennially strong Meadowbrook varsity team. Despite the inclement weather and a skilled opponent, the Gators performed admirably. Meadowbrook dominated the midfield play with almost preternatural passing and ball skills. The Gators marked the opposing players, but the Meadowbrook passes always seemed to find the open man breaking on goal. After only twelve minutes into the game, the Gators found themselves down by three goals. After the initial onslaught, Brimmer locked down their back line and found a more effective way to defend the Meadowbrook passing.

The Gators made further adjustments during halftime and were able to start some effective offensive play of their own. Meadowbrook withstood the Brimmer runs and eventually countered with a fourth goal, putting Brimmer in their largest deficit of the season. The Gators refused to be disheartened and redoubled their efforts to finish the game with their customary tenacity. With about nine minutes to play, Austin Camiel ’16 beat his man to the sideline and started a strong run to the corner. The Meadowbrook sweeper came out to push the ball past the touch line. Gator sweeper Hector Morales ’15 came up to take the throw, sending a long ball to the Meadowbrook six-yard box. Sean Lee ’16 collected the ball, split two defenders, and sent the ball into the far corner, putting Brimmer on the scoreboard and finishing the game with a measure of pride for the Gators.
