After School Music Program Director Alex Ostergard

Alex directs the middle and upper school bands at Brimmer. They are an accomplished educator, keyboardist, and composer, passionate about broadening students' musical horizons. Dr. Ostergard aims to encourage intellectual curiosity by exposing students to a broad range of musical styles and genres, including music from around the world. They believe in nurturing the whole learner, and that a robust music education will enrich every student, no matter their later academic or vocational path. 

A Note on Selecting an Instructor for Your Child: Finding the right teacher-student fit is critical, and we do our best to match a student to one of our faculty members with whom we feel they will thrive. Our teachers are highly-qualified educators who offer a range of approaches to provide the best fit for each student.

    A native of Hong Kong based in Boston, Mr. Chiu has made appearances in major cities across Asia and North America as a performer and as an educator. His performance highlights include solo appearances with the University of British Columbia Chamber Orchestra and with the Boston Trombone Octet.

    Matthew spent the years 1987-2000 impersonating a classical guitarist while playing bass guitar in an original rock band in the state of Maryland. Upon moving to MA in 2000, Mr. Wright took up the lute seriously and studied with Douglas Freundlich at The Longy School of Music.
