GATORS GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS WITH 4-1 VICTORY OVER BEAVER

The Gators beat cross town rival Beaver in a non-league game 4-1. Brimmer and May began the game with great intensity. Maria Aguilar Moreno ’17 possessed the ball on the right side and assisted Heather Gates ’13, who shot the ball past the Beaver keeper for a 1-0 lead. The Gators continued to play well but the ball control was challenging with wet field conditions. The offense worked to try and find their rhythm while the defense continued to pressure Beaver. Each time the Beaver team attempted a run at our goal, the defense shut them down. Sarah Calmas ’13 played a terrific game and shut down any threat. The first half ended with Brimmer leading 1-0.

In the second half, Beaver controlled the momentum and mounted early attacking runs. The Gators did not let up and began to put together their own attacks as our defense and keeper continued to prevent Beaver from advancing. In the ninth minute of the second half, Chardon Brooks ’15 skillfully beat multiple Beaver defenders and threaded as pass to Maria Aguilar. Maria beat two defenders and sent the ball into the back of the Beaver net. That goal seemed to ignite the Brimmer offense. Halfway through the second half, Kristin Gates ’15 sent a ball past 2 defenders across the mouth of the goal. Nicole Gates ’13 received the ball and fired it into the goal, making the score 3-0. Brimmer was awarded a free kick outside the eighteen yard box. Kristin stepped up to take the kick and sent a rocket of a shot over the outstretched hands of the Beaver keeper making the score 4-0. Though Beaver would score a goal with three minutes left to play, the game ended 4-1 in favor of Brimmer and May.

The Gators are back in action on Saturday, October 13, as they host Moses Brown at The Orr Field for homecoming at 1:00 p.m.
