Varsity Boys Soccer @ CH-CH

The Varsity boys’ soccer team kept up their momentum with a 4 - 1 win over Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall. The Gators made a strong start and controlled the early possession. The Gators took the lead when Tyler Best ‘18 converted a penalty kick for a handball in the box. The Gators doubled their lead when Ben Ernest ‘19 made a strong run through the Chargers’ box, but he found himself with a poor shooting angle close to the end. Rather than trying to force the issue, Ben played the ball back across the face of goal and Dylan Rigol ’18 tapped in from close range. Just before the break, Ben earned another assist when he fed the ball through to Tyler Best. Tyler collected the ball on the run and stayed ahead of his defender and was through with just the keeper to beat. Tyler kept his cool and finished with a low hard shot to give the Gators a 3 - 0 lead at halftime.

The Chargers came out fast in the second half and scored on the first play of the half to make it 3 - 1. The Gators did not let this rattle them and they settled back into the rhythm of the game. With a comfortable lead, the Gators’ bench players got some important game experience and held their own against the Chargers’ starters. In the last few minutes of the game, Peng Zhang ‘18 put the icing on the cake with a final goal that he scored from close range as the ball was bouncing around the Chargers’ area.
