Varsity Girls Soccer @ St. Andrew's School

The girls took their talents to Rhode Island on Saturday as they played in front of a large crowd against St. Andrews School on a beautiful fall day. Although it was not a league game, the girls knew that a positive result would help them in their bid to qualify for the NEPSAC tournament. A early goals in both halves and solid defense at the end of the game allowed the Gators to earn a 3-2 win and improve their record to 8-5-0.

Sophie Lapat ‘18 put the Gators in front just three minutes into the game when she beat her defender and finished with a hard shot to the lower left corner. Just three minutes later Kimberly Santos ‘18 sent Sophie in again and she hit a left footed bomb into the top right corner from just outside the box. St. Andrews gradually got back into the game, and the Gators were hard pressed to slow down their speedy wingers. Brimmer had several opportunities on the counter attack as Hannah Ahearn ‘20 did a great of distributing the ball up front and to the wings. One of the prettiest movements occurred when Elo Luczkow ‘23 received a pass from Sophie and found Kimberly who quickly passed back to Sophie only for her shot to be saved by the goalie. The half ended 2-0, and both teams went to their huddles to regroup.

The Gators started the second half quickly as well. Kimberly took a pass from Abby Mynahan ’19, beat her defender and hit a shot into the far corner for a 3-0 lead. Several more opportunities to extend the lead just missed. Elo hit the crossbar, Kaylee Little ‘23 had a shot just go wide, and Sade Latinwo ‘20 had a bid saved off the line. St. Andrews got one back with 15 minutes to go and gathered some momentum. A second goal just got by Claire Masterson ‘20 as she dove to her right and tipped it off the post only for it to fall behind her into the net. The Gators regrouped defensively and were able to hold on to the 3-2 lead. The girls look to close out the regular season with a win as they take on CSW on Tuesday at Orr Field.
