We welcomed the Board of Visitors' to Brimmer with a Greenline chorus performance directed by Music and Choral Director Scott Koven. Lower, Middle, and Upper School students gave impressive presentations on the theme of "Empathy and Ethical Thinking at Brimmer and May."
Students from all three divisions presented recent examples of their work. Lower School students discussed 'Developing Empathy through Project-Based Learning. Middle Schoolers talked about Max Warburg Courage Curriculum and their Partnership with Greater Boston Food Bank. Upper School students spoke about ‘Answering Essential Questions through the Lens of Humanities and History Curriculum.
Student panels were followed by a keynote presentation “The Importance of Philosophy, Empathy, and Ethical Thinking in Education,” by Dr. Patrick Byrne, Professor of Philosophy at Boston College. Byrne studies the importance of seeking answers to life’s most basic questions regarding the nature of knowledge, truth, justice, humanity, power, and spirituality. He is parent to two alumni, Tom ’02 and Mark ’09, and a former Trustee of the School for 18 years.
Head of School Judy Guild spoke about ‘Brimmer and May Today’, and then Board of Visitors' and members of the Administration enjoyed a luncheon at the Heads House.
