Cross Country Wins League Championship

Ted Barker-Hook, Varsity Cross Country Coach
On Wednesday at Gann Academy, the Gators claimed the first ever girls' team title in MBIL history. (In previous years the MBIL ran cross country as a co-ed sport.)
Leading the way for the Big Green Running Machine was Caiti Cullen '19, who took first place in a field of over fifty girls. Caiti was followed by Elisabeth Ellervik '23 (8th place), captain Anja Westhues '20 (9th place), Leah Bell '22 (12th place), and Ella Meranus '20 (17th place) rounded out the scoring. Sophia Spring '22 finished 21st, followed by Vivi Lorusso '21 in 39th, and Catherine Leeder '20 in 47th.
The team, which topped the second-place team by a comfortable 15 point margin, looks to build on these results when they compete in the New England Division 4 Championships at Marianapolis Prep on Saturday, November 10.
In addition, Connor Reif '19 won his second consecutive MBIL individual championship, cruising to a dominating 1 minute and 10-second cushion over the second place runner. In earning the victory, Connor became the first runner to win two individual league crowns, and he was also unanimously voted MBIL Most Valuable Runner by the league coaches. This is his second MVR recognition, something no male runner has ever accomplished in our league. We are really excited to see how high Connor can place at the New England Championships.
