Gators come up short in a close battle

The Gators held the lead through most of this hard-fought game, but Rashi took a one run lead in the last inning for the win. Southpaw Sayde Cheever ’23 started the game on the mound for the Gators, recording five strikeouts, no walks, and seven hits across four innings. The Gators’ infield executed several excellent plays, including two cleanly fielded grounders at third base by Kaylee Little ‘23 that she fired across the diamond to Emma Guevara ’23 at first base for outs. Catcher Alison Rimas ‘23 made an excellent heads up play, catching a fly ball behind the plate to record another out. Sadye Cheever also made several excellent defensive plays from the mound, throwing out three batters at first base. At the plate the Gators faced two strong pitchers, but with aggressive bats Alison Rimas ‘23, Jazzy Lang ’24, Adia Kirwan-Smith ’25, and Inka Korsisaari-Rossi ’24 all hit singles. The Gators’ two runs were scored by Alison Rimas on an RBI single by Inka Korsisaari-Rossi, and by Polly Zimmerman ’25 on an RBI single by Jazzy Lang. The Gators’ next game will be their home opener next Thursday against Dedham Country Day.
