Voices Assembly - Focus on AAPI

Brimmer and May recently held an Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Voices Assembly. Voices Assemblies are one way that we elevate the voices of those in marginalized communities; we typically have two per year. Three people from the Brimmer community worked with a professional story-telling coach over several weeks to craft stories about their experience as part of the identified community. Upper School students Neel Kumar '22 and Hebe Qiang '23 and 2nd grade teacher Angela Park presented, and their stories were profound.
Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging Jessica Christian says, "each speaker presented twice, and the audience (students, staff, and teachers) had the opportunity to respond through a process called 'offering appreciations.' In past Voices Assemblies, some of our most wonderful comments have come from our students, even our youngest middle school students."
