Gators Poli Tsiotos hits game winner

The Gators faced off against Park for a second time this season, this time on the road. With some added height and speed on Park’s team, this was a great match up as the game began with both teams getting to the basket right away. Brimmer’s defense started off a little slow and all of Park’s shots were connecting, but the Gators answered right back with a beautiful steal and lay up by Maya Thompson. Park’s offense kept rolling and Brimmer had some great looks but the Gators shots just wouldn’t fall, giving Park a one point lead at halftime. Going into the second half, Brimmer adjusted their defense and Mimie Manigat was working overtime crashing the boards and boxing out hard for the Gators. Although Brimmer revved up the intensity on defense, the Gators still couldn’t seem to connect offensively and Park managed to hold onto a four point lead for majority of the game. With just over a minute left to play, Hadley Reardon was able to knock the ball loose on defense and find Alexa Dykeman on the fast break, cutting Park’s lead to two. After a final timeout with 40 seconds left in the game, Hadley Reardon and Maya Thompson set a perfectly timed high double screen for Polio Tsiotos, allowing her to drive to the basket and kick the ball back out to Hadley. Park’s defense got lost under the basket as Poli found space in the right corner pocket. With a quick pass from Hadley, Poli Tsiotos hit the game winning three from right behind the arc. The final score was 20-19.
