Gators lose contest to Chapel Hill Chauncey Hall

The Gator Boys tennis team played their first match at the Mt. Ida courts and came up short against a tough CH-CH team.  Captain Dieter Gartner '22 played #1 singles and lost 2-8.  The match was closer than the score indicates and was filled with good long rallies, smashing winners on both sides, and perseverance.  Ray Park '22 played and lost 2-8 to a tenacious opponent.  Lots of good rallies, but Ray just came up short.  Marco DeMelo was #3 in singles and was outlasted 4-8 by another tough opponent when he saw his early 4-2 lead overcome by another tenacious opponent.
In doubles the #1 doubles team of James Wang'22 and Kei Wen'22 had a long and contested match that featured good net rallies and good serving but were finally beaten 5-8.  The number two doubles, our rookies Aaron MacLean'28 and Zahin Kapoor'28 pulled out our only win with a whitewash 7-0, totally overwhelming their opponents.  The extra doubles doubles match was played by Neal Kumar'22 and DJ Quarles'26 and they fought to a 4-4 tie that would have been a win if the time hadn't expired.

It was a good first match, although the score wasn't what we wanted.  Everybody played hard and well and the rest of the season looks to be very promising
