Congratulations to the Boys' Varsity II Basketball team for winning the MBIL Championship!

The Boys' Varsity II Basketball team traveled to Framingham yesterday to play a strong Learning Center team in the League Championship game. After losing to TLC a couple of weeks ago, Brimmer and May was determined to be victorious in this rematch. The game started well for both teams. Brimmer and May executed their game plan of tough defense, strong rebounding, and taking care of the basketball. While senior Matthew Lebowitz was controlling the flow of the game and distributing the ball, seniors Benjamin Petersen, Bielinsky Brea, and Michael Bortnick were taking care of things on the offensive end. Defense was the key, with Brimmer and May limiting TLC to only 22 first half points. As the lead seemed to change every few minutes, TLC grabbed the momentum with about a minute to go, hitting a three pointer to put them up by 5. Not wanting to go into halftime with that deficit, Lebowitz nailed a three pointer of his own with a few seconds remaining to cut the TLC lead to only 2. The halftime score was 22-20.
The second half started with a renewed sense of purpose, urgency, and effort. The Gators were beginning to establish themselves both on the offensive and defensive end, though TLC would not go away. Bortnick (16 points) had a huge second half converting two big three pointers, one as he was fouled for a four point play, which sent the game out of reach. Junior Stephen Mulloy (6 points) was fighting illness during the entire day, and playing on pure adrenaline, raised his game to out-rebound, out-defend, out-pass, and out-score most of the TLC team. He established himself as one of the best players on the floor. Petersen (11 points), Brea (10 points), and Lebowitz (11 points) were also huge contributors and made big plays down the stretch. Though TLC kept the game close, Brimmer and May's defense, gutsy play, and will to win was too much for them to handle down the stretch as the the Gators persevered to win the game 57-47. It truly was a tremendous win!
