B&M BEATS UNDEFEATED MONTROSE, 1-0

The Varsity Girls' Soccer team traveled to the Orr field to take on undefeated Montrose. Earlier in the season, Montrose had beaten Brimmer and May 4-0 and dominated the entire game. Our girls knew they would be tested, but they were confident that they would put forth a much better effort than they had shown in the first game. Determined, intense, and more focused than they had been all season. Controlling the field of play for most of the first half, Brimmer kept the pressure on. Sticking to the game plan they had worked on for the previous two practices, Brimmer and May was composed and intense while challenging and matching Montrose at every turn. The first half ended 0-0, and the Brimmer huddle was intense.

The second half started with Brimmer and May putting an amazing amount of pressure on the Montrose goal and continuing to control the field of play. Fifteen minutes into the second half Kristin Gates ’15 sent a chip shot into the 18 yard box from the left side of the field, where Chardon Brooks ’15 flicked the ball with her head onto Heather Gates ’11 who was waiting in the center of the 18. Heather turned quickly to her right, beat the sweeper, and sent the ball past the Montrose keeper. For the next 20 minutes, the play would go back and forth with each team mounting good attacks at the opponents goal. Brimmer's defense would not let down one bit. They played their best game of the season, as did Nicole Gates ’13 and Sarah Howard ’16 who did a phenomenal job as the center midfielders. Nicole and Sarah were supporting the forwards and marking their players out of the game. The last 8 minutes was fast and furious with Montrose countering at every turn, but Brimmer would not bend. The final whistle blew with Brimmer and May taking the game 1-0 as the players swarmed Sarah Calmas ’13 in the goal.

Brimmer is back at it tomorrow at the Orr field versus Beaver at 4:00 p.m.
