B&M COMPETES IN HOOPS MOUNTAIN CLASSIC

On Saturday, December 3, the Varsity boys’ basketball team traveled to Marianapolis Prep to compete in the Hoop Mountain Classic. The Gators first game was against Mack Prep (NC). The game started at 9:30 a.m., and both teams looked out of sync early. Jake Fay ‘13 had the Gators firing early with his three 3-point shots. Jake ended the game with a total of fourteen points and four 3-point shots to continue his strong shooting from beyond the arc. Mack Prep matched Jake shot for shot, and they ended up knocking down six 3-point shots in the first half. Mack Prep was on fire from the floor and the Gators did everything to limit their lead to ten points at half-time.

Mack Prep came out in the second half and played hard defense causing the Gators to make turnovers. Mack Prep built a sixteen point lead during the first ten minutes. Jake Fay was well guarded because of the early 3-point shots he made in the first half. However, the heavily guarded Jake allowed for Adrian Oliveria '13 to get by the Mack Prep defense with ease. Adrian ended the night with 28 points and five assists. Mack Prep had the lead by eight points with three minutes to go, and John Powell ‘13 picked up his fifth foul taking him out of the game. The momentum turned in favor of Mack Prep and stopped the Gators from trying to surmount any type of comeback. The Gators put up another valiant effort but lost with a final score of 74-58

The Gators will be back in action on Friday, December 9, as they travel to take on St. Mark’s School at 6:00 p.m.
