GATORS LOSE IN DOUBLE OVERTIME TO NEWMAN, 55-53

The JV boys’ basketball team came out very aggressive against The Newman School. The Gators had many steals, which led to a 15 point lead in the first half. In the second half, Newman made some offensive adjustments and began to score quickly. Newman fostered a comeback and took their first lead of the game with less than a minute left to play in the game. In the last 30 seconds of regulation, Kevin Gates ’15 made two free throw shots to send the game into the first overtime. Kevin led the Gators in scoring with 32 points.
The Gators had a three point lead in the final seconds of overtime, but Newman hit a 3-point shot to send the game into double overtime. In the final seconds of double overtime, Newman made a lay-up off a missed free throw with three seconds remaining. The Gators ran one more play but fell short on making a game winner. The Newman team displayed good shooting as they got they got the win. The JV boys’ displayed good defense and transition offense.
