B&M FALL TO WARING, 28-18

The Varsity girls’ lacrosse team is now 2-4-1 after a 28-18 loss to Waring on Thursday. Both teams possessed great shooters that had many great shots throughout the game. The Gators came out strong in the first half, and it was the Gators that scored first when Kristin Gates ’15 scored three unanswered goals. Waring continued to attack the net, but the Brimmer and May defensive unit was up for the challenge. The talented players from Waring finally found the net for their first tally of the game. Victoria Foster ’12 answered back by scoring the next two goals of the game to extend the Gators lead, 5-1. Both teams knew possession off the draw would determine the outcome of the game. Waring scored seven more goals throughout the half to take the lead. Liza Gourinovitch ’14, Nicole Gates ’13, and Kristin Gates added two goals each to bring the score within one, 12-11. In the last ten seconds, the Gators were down by one goal. Nicole had possession of the ball and took a shot on goal from the 30-yard line. To everyone’s surprise, the shot scored and the score at half was tied at half, 12-12.
In the second half, Waring came out fast and strong and scored five goals in ten minutes. Brimmer and May would not let up and continued to play hard, but could not string together as big of a scoring run as Waring. Nicole Gates scored four goals in the second half bringing her total for the day to seven goals. Victoria added two goals and one assist. Izzy Hazard ’17 played another great game in goal and earned thirteen saves. The Gators played a great game on both ends of the field and continue to improve each time they step on the field.
The Gators will host Landmark for their next game on Tuesday, May 8, at 4:00 p.m.
