Varsity Softball vs The Woodward School

In their third game in as many days, the Varsity Softball team lost their second in a row to a league rival. The Woodward Wildcats came into Chestnut Hill displaying a dangerous mix of discipline and power at the plate. Coupled with the Gators’ shakiest defensive outing of the year, the Woodward offense proved to be too much to handle. Chardon Brooks '15 looked strong on the mound, walking only two batters for the game, but her defense did not provide much help in the first inning as four Gator errors led to a ten-run inning for the Wildcats. The Gators did eke out a comeback in the next two innings, cutting the deficit in half. Led by run-scoring singles by Brooks and Jordan Rockland '15, the Gators scored four in the first inning and then scraped together another run in the second on a single from Erin Kong '15 (thirteen runs scored on the season) and another triple from Rockland. Woodward pushed across two more runs in the third, but the Gators again answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, led by Brooks run-scoring single. With the score 12-8 heading into the fourth, things looked bright for a Brimmer and May comeback, but unfortunately the Gator defense caught another case of the yips, opening the floodgates for another big Woodward inning. In the end, Brimmer and May found themselves on the wrong end of a 22-8 score. They look to get back on track on Thursday, May 8 against the Red Heifers of Gann Academy.
