Grade 3 Lab
In Third Grade, the design process is implemented in a variety of projects across various content areas. Using the Design Lab, Third Graders work on two major projects. The first project explores the concept of electrical circuits. Students make and use two types of dough, one being conductive dough, and the other being insulating dough.
In Third Grade, the design process is implemented in a variety of projects across various content areas. Using the Design Lab, Third Graders work on two major projects. The first project explores the concept of electrical circuits. Students make and use two types of dough, one being conductive dough, and the other being insulating dough. The primary objective for each student team is to build a simple series circuit. As the students’ culminating project during the study of sound, each student design and create a unique sound system. The students follow the design process chart to create and build a prototype of their sound system. Finally, in the spring, Third Grade partners with Second Grade for the annual STEAM ColLab. Teachers will facilitate two-week design workshops on various topics using the design process with blended grade-level groups.
