Gr. 4 Writes to Syrian Refugees

In April, some fourth graders and their families went to hear Sarah Mardini speak. Sarah was a Syrian refugee who successfully made the dangerous journey, along with her sister, though Germany to the Greek island of Lesvos. Sarah now volunteers on Lesvos to help others. Fourth grader Aya Abdulnour recently interviewed Sarah about her experience. Sarah shared with Aya that the children in the refugee center would love to receive letters of support from other children. In response, Brimmer students wrote letters with messages of support and well wishes to the Syrian refugee children and also made them friendship bracelets. The letters were brought to the center on Lesvos. In late May, refugee children gathered at the center to read the letters, written by Brimmer fourth graders, and to reply to them. Brimmer students eagerly await the arrival of the letters on campus!
