New Library Learning Commons

This summer, the Reeinstierna Library in the Chase Building underwent an exciting transformation from a library to a library learning commons. As student work has become more collaborative in nature and more project based, the new Library Learning Commons model better fits with current and future learning trends than does a traditional style approach to library services. While maintaining all of the benefits of our current library space, collection, and program, the new Library Learning Commons includes a variety of support services to facilitate student access to a variety of expert services during the school day.

In addition to library and research support, Upper School students can access the Math Lab, the Writing Center, and academic support services in one location. The new space will includes the current library spaces as well as the former college counseling offices, which houses the Middle School Learning Center. This space, which in now available for all students in grades 6-8, is staffed by Brimmer faculty. Students can access assistance for math, writing, and organization during study halls and after school.

While a traditional library caters to individual learning and quiet work, the new space provides multiple zones for both collaborative and quiet work. Updated furnishings allow for students to work comfortably in the various settings. As libraries and learning continue to evolve, our updated Library Learning Commons space and program allows us to provide highly relevant and useful services to our students and community.
As an inclusive private school community, Brimmer welcomes students who will increase the diversity of our school.
