Big win for Gators against Commonwealth School

The Gators continued to build momentum for a playoff push, with a 5-3 win over the Commonwealth School, on the playing fields at Mt Ida. The Gators started strong and controlled much of the first ten minutes of play but couldn’t convert any of their early chances. Commonwealth battled hard and scored the first goal about fifteen minutes into the game, but the Gators answered with a goal of their own just a couple of minutes later. Brian Barrera played a cross into the area and Anson Mancebo headed home from close range. Ten minutes later and Sevak Glorikian was pushed from behind inside the penalty area earning the team its first penalty kick of the season. Brian stepped up, placed the ball on the spot, and calmly shot the ball into the back of the net to give the Gators their first lead of the game. The lead, however, did not last long and the game was tied up again at 2-2. Just before halftime the Gators again took the lead, when Sevak played a nicely weighted through ball for Brian to run onto. Brian brought the ball onto his strong left foot and rifled a shot past the diving keeper. 

Soon after the restart, Commonwealth again tied the game, and seemed to have the momentum on their side. Commonwealth were attacking the Gator goal with numbers, when Owen Williams stole the ball just outside the eighteen and proceeded to dribble most of the length of field going past three Commonwealth players. When he reached a double team, Owen sent the ball through to Anson, who made no mistake and buried the ball in the net to give the Gators another lead. The Gators finished off the game with a final goal just two minutes before the final whistle. Sevak was unselfish and played a ball through for Brian that he scored easily from close range and completed his first hat-trick of the season.

The Gators are back in action against league rivals BTA on Wednesday when they host them at Mt Ida with kickoff set for 4:15pm.
