    Bio
     
    Bill grew up in Italy and South America before arriving in Manhattan where he attended the Collegiate School before he began acting professionally. He earned a B.A. in Theatre Literature at Vassar College and studied acting at the Classic Stage Company with Christopher Martin. A member of Actor’s Equity, Bill has enjoyed associations with Joe Papp’s Public Theatre, Soho Rep, the Ensemble Studio Theatre, and Delaware Rep, among others. He toured nationally with Los Titeres de Chaciaporra, a Lorca farce, and internationally with the Royal Theatre of Spain’s production of Life is a Dream. He was a founding member of the street theatre group, Commedia ‘del’ I.R.T.

    Since his arrival at Brimmer and May in 1988, Bill has earned an M.A. in Theatre Education and an M.F.A in Creative Writing from Emerson College and an M.Ed. in Private School Leadership from Columbia University. He is a cooperating practitioner with Emerson College in the training of theatre education majors and has served as an adjunct professor for Lesley University in its Creative Arts and Learning Master’s program. Bill’s plays have been produced by the Speakeasy Theatre Company, Stage One of Providence, Harwich Junior Theatre and Emerson College, and he has received numerous grants to write plays collaboratively with students in area schools. In 1998, Bill was named Outstanding Arts Educator in Drama by the Massachusetts Alliance for Arts and Education.

    Formerly the Lower School Drama teacher at Brimmer from 1989-2000, he is currently the Creative Arts Department Chair at Brimmer and Director of the Creative Arts Diploma Program. He teaches in both the Middle and Upper School divisions and supervises the use of the Ruth Corkin Theatre.

    Bio
     
    Born and raised in Massachusetts, Liz is excited to be back in her home state after teaching in New York City and the Midwest for the past decade plus. She brings a breadth of experience in visual art instruction at both the secondary and college levels. Her teaching often focuses on drawing, with an emphasis on observation, composition, and personal expression, using the Elements of Art as a foundation. 
     
    Her own studio practice—centered on painting, drawing, and mixed-media installation—deeply informs her teaching. Liz believes in helping students develop both technical skills and a personal voice through exploration, critical thinking, and engagement with materials and ideas. She aims to foster an inclusive, supportive, and joyful environment where students feel encouraged to take creative risks and grow as makers and collaborators within Brimmer’s artistic community.

    Liz holds her Massachusetts Educator's License for grades 5–12 and has exhibited her artwork nationally.

    Bio
     
    Max believes in the power of the arts to improve personal wellness through practiced self-expression. As a teacher, he challenges students to listen intently, think critically, and perform bravely. As a mentor, he builds bridges for students to develop lasting relationships through making music together.
     
    Max spent four years in Norfolk, Virginia where he taught at the secondary and university levels and freelanced as a conductor, singer, pianist, and harpsichordist. The year prior, he lived in Madrid, Spain, where he taught English, studied Spanish, and sang in several choirs. 
     
    Outside of music, Max enjoys cycling, hiking, cooking, traveling, and playing fetch with his cat, Estrella.

    Kathryn is a designer and educator dedicated to nurturing creative confidence and problem-solving skills in her students. She strives to create a learning environment where risk-taking is encouraged and students feel empowered to achieve more than they ever imagined.

    Before joining the Brimmer team in 2010, Kathryn served as an art faculty member at St. George’s School in Newport, Rhone Island, and Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Connecticut, focusing primarily on photography, drawing, and jewelry making. Kathryn also spent several summers serving as art director for the American School in Switzerland’s Summer Language Program.

    Kathryn is deeply passionate about sharing her enthusiasm for creative problem-solving and pushing students to think beyond conventional boundaries. She takes pride in guiding them to see the world through a creative lens, integrating art history, cultural significance, contemporary practices, and innovation-driven makerspace work as sources of inspiration.

    Beyond the classroom, Kathryn’s artistic practice spans a wide range of media, including fine art, photography, makerspace fabrication, fashion design, and even cake illustration. Her work is driven by a love for abstract art, texture, and color, and she often finds that her students’ creativity sparks new ideas in her own practice. For Kathryn, teaching and making are deeply interconnected, each enriching the other in unexpected ways.

    Bio
     
    Eric Neudel has been an editor and producer of many PBS programs, including “After The Crash” for The American Experience, “Eyes On The Prize,” “The U.S. and The Philippines: In Our Image,” “AIDS: Chapter One” for NOVA, and “Vietnam: A Television History.” His independent films include “Steps” (1980) and “Fred’s Story” (1994). Eric directed the critically acclaimed Independent Lens film “Lives Worth Living,” served as a film envoy, film expert, and speaker for the US Department of State’s cultural exchange programs, including the American Film Showcase. He curated America’s Disability Rights Museum on Wheels which toured the country from 2015 to 2017. His newest film, The Wake Up Call (2021), is a feature length documentary soon to be released. Throughout Eric’s career he has worked to teach filmmakers about the technical aspects of writing scripts, capturing motion, and editing video, while also honing their skills as storytellers.

    Bio
     
    Alex was born and raised in Florida. Their musical training began in middle school, when they joined the school band hoping to learn to play the music from their favorite video games. As nearly all of Alex’s role models were or are teachers, they wanted to be a teacher starting at an early age. Prior to joining Brimmer and May, Alex taught for the Music in General Studies department of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and directed the Composition for Non-majors program at the Eastman School of Music.

    Alex believes that a music education can enrich every student, no matter their goals beyond school. They seek to broaden the musical horizons of their students by exposing them to music old, new, and from around the globe. Alex fosters each student’s creation of a unique musical identity by learning what music they enjoy, enabling student exploration, and incorporating their interests into programming. 

    Alex holds degrees in music theory, composition, and organ from Stetson University, the Eastman School of Music, and Indiana University. As a composer, they’ve won numerous awards, including the Howard Hanson Orchestral Prize and the Susan B. Gitelman Prize. They use their composing and arranging skills to prepare unique music for the bands at Brimmer and May. 

    Outside of work, Alex enjoys studying the Japanese language, composing, cooking, and lavishing their cat Cleo with all the praise she deserves.

    Bio
     
    Julie is a freelance photographer, educator, and photographic artist in the Boston area. She has many years of experience both domestically and internationally with museum and gallery work. She holds a B.A. in English from Juniata College in Pennsylvania and an M.A. in Photographic Studies from University of Westminster, London U.K.

    Julie’s personal photographic practice investigates identity and personal narrative. As a freelance photographer, she is practicing real estate photographer and an aspiring food photographer. As an educator, Julie enthusiastically helps students learn the properties of film and digital photography and helps students develop their technical skills and artistic vision and voice. 

    Julie has a passion for travel and has been fortunate to travel to more than 75 countries, and she lived in London, UK for 16 years. She has been in the Boston area since 2010 and lives with her husband, her daughter (now at university), and her two dogs.
