B&M DOWNS MEADOWBROOK, 5-0

The Gators played very well against Meadowbrook on Wednesday, and came away with great success on their home field winning 5-0. The game started off as a battle for possession, but B&M stuck to the game plan of staying spread out and finding open passes. Our forwards—Sophie Lapat ’18, Kate Delaney ’17, Nejat Alireza ’18, Sarah Smith ’17, and Olivia Malmstrom ’16—played hard and found many shots on goal. It was not until 15:22 into the first half that Sophie found the back of the net. After that, our midfielders—Sarah Smith ’17, Katie Santin ’17, Monica Morales ’18, Taylor Shore ’18, and Haley Bayne ’17—did a fantastic job of controlling the ball and creating goal scoring opportunities. Katie took a corner kick that almost landed right inside the goal, but was bouncing around in the box. Sophie was the one to put the ball in the back of the net for the second goal of the game.

At the half, the Gators came out hungry for a win. Each member of the team was working hard to fend of the efforts of Meadowbrook. The defensive line was hard at work. Kendall Mills ’17, Enna Spivak ’17, Sarah Ulfelder ’18, Genny Fahrner ’17, Alison Gill ’16, and Shayna Pepe ’17 each stepped up to the challenge and limited the shots on goal. The defensive hustle and clears allowed our forwards to control the ball to convert on three more goal-scoring opportunities. The first was a goal scored by Sophie from an assist made by Kate. The second was a clearing ball from Kendall to Sophie for a finish on goal. The third and final goal of the game was scored once again by Sophie with an assist from Monica. Haley played goal in the first half with the sun in her eyes and made five saves, and Shayna had a stunning twelve saves to finish the game with a shutout. A wonderful team effort by the Gators.
