Faculty & Staff TEDx Presentation

At Brimmer opening faculty and staff meetings Jimmy Guterman of TEDxBoston presented “Ted in the Classroom: A Tool to Help Learners Learn.” Gutterman, a former Brimmer camp parent, focused on the three elements to consider when creating a successful TEDx—the story, audience, and voice.

He also shared the “ten commandements” of TEDx which state, “I. Thou shalt not steal time. II. Thou shalt not sell from the stage. III. Thou shalt not flaunt thine ego. IV. Thou shalt not commit obfuscation. V. Thou shalt not murder PowerPoint. VI. Thou shalt shine a light. VII. Thou shalt tell a story. VIII. Thou shalt honor emotion. IX. Thou shalt bravely bare thy soul. X. Thou shalt prepare for impact.”

Guterman stressed that speakers should have a “combination of authority and vulnerability” to their presenations. Read more at Guterman’s blog

Fourth grade teacher Ina Patel shared with faculty and staff a TEDx-style video presentation created by one of her students, to show how talks can be incorporated into the classroom learning experience. Faculty implemented Guterman’s advice by creating their own TEDx Talks which were shared with each other.
