FAQ's

List of 7 frequently asked questions.

  • How may I get an application and brochure?

Please see the Application Process page of the website for information and copies of applications. Please call the Admissions Office at 617-738-8695 or email admissions@brimmer.org for additional information. We begin conducting tours during the second week of School (in early September) and continue throughout the academic year. An interview is required for students and parents/guardians of applicants. One or both parents or guardians should accompany the student applicant.
  • What happens during the Admissions visit and Interview?

The visit begins with a guided tour of the School with a member of the Admissions Office or a Student Tour Guide.

Immediately following the campus tour, an admission officer will interview the family. For applicants to grades Pre-K through grade 5, only the parent(s) or guardian(s) will have an interview. For applicants to grades 6-12, the student will meet one-on-one with a member of the admissions staff followed by an interview with the parent(s) or guardian(s).

The interview is an opportunity for the admissions staff to meet the family and learn more about the applicant’s experiences and interests. Likewise, the family will have the opportunity to ask questions and to learn more about Brimmer.

The tour and interview will take approximately 2 hours and are required for all applicant families.
  • What standardized tests are required?

All applicants for grades 6-8 are required to take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam), and applicants for grades 9-12 are required to take the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test). While Brimmer and May does not act as a test site for either of these tests, families are welcome to contact us for assistance regarding testing locations.

Evaluations for students applying to Pre-K through grade 5 are scheduled at Brimmer and May in January.
  • Does Brimmer offer Financial Aid?

Yes. Brimmer has a generous financial assistance budget and makes it a priority to assist an economically diverse community. All aid is based on need, as demonstrated by the financial aid and tax forms the family submits. A committee determines how to apportion the available financial aid funds among the families who apply. About 32% of our students receive some financial aid. Click here for more information.
  • When will I receive an Admissions decision?

Notification letters are mailed on March 9. You will also learn about any financial aid at this time.
