Teams and Schedules

Get out there. Get moving. You’re going to love it. Brimmer students benefit from being physically active in all kinds of ways. In the Lower School this means physical education classes that develop skills and encourage healthy levels of fitness. In the Middle and Upper School, we offer opportunities for interscholastic and recreational sports where all participants—whether JV or varsity, novice or skilled competitor—have the opportunity to experience the joys of teamwork, the fun of school spirit, and the rewards of individual skill improvement from week to week, season to season, and year to year.

Fall 2020 Update

Brimmer is committed to providing a sports and fitness program during the Fall of 2020 under the safety guidelines supplied by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The School will not be participating in interscholastic sports during the fall season, but will offer sport specific skills training and fitness options for Middle and Upper School students.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in an athletics opportunity twice a week during the fall sports season. While in a typical year the School has a sports requirement, the Fall season will be an opt-in program.

Athletics Overview

Our teams compete in the Massachusetts’ Bay Independent League (MBIL), the Independent Girls’ Conference (IGC), and the New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC), in addition to invitational matches.

  • Upper School - Grades 9-12

At the junior varsity level, we emphasize learning the fundamentals and giving everybody the chance to apply them in games. At the varsity level, we value competitive intensity, execution, and the kind of teamwork that makes a squad better than the sum of its parts. At every level, Brimmer values sportsmanship above all, but we are always looking for a good win! Upper School students are required to play at least one season of interscholastic sports. In off-seasons, upper school students continue to be active by participating in recreational offerings such as golf, fitness, skiing, or yoga.
  • Middle School - Grades 6-8

Our Middle School athletics program focuses on teaching the fundamentals, while emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork. Every day is an opportunity to do something good for yourself, whether that is skill development that prepares you for higher-level competition or discovering a healthy activity you can enjoy for the rest of your life. Whether in practice or game situations, sports give all students an opportunity to put our Core Values— Respect, Responsibility, Kindness, and Honesty—into action. Sixth graders have the option, but are not required to play interscholastic sports. Seventh and eighth graders must play a minimum of one season of a team sport. If you play only one season of a team sport, you must choose an activity for the other two seasons. If you play two seasons of a team sport, you can take one season off.
