Boston 2027

What Makes Beantown Tick?

Historic Boston is an exciting place, and it takes a lot to keep the city running, especially with its ever-changing priorities and challenges. This Winterim trip will give students a chance to look at what makes Beantown tick and explore some of its cultural landmarks. With a city that has so much to offer we encourage the students to share ideas on what they would like to see. Each year the trip leaders and students work together to create an itinerary, based on the student interests. In the past three Winterim years, we have visited Fox25 in Dedham, The Boston Globe and The Harvard Lampoon. We have also seen such historic and cultural sites such as the Boston Tea Party Museum, Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, John F Kennedy Museum and MIT Museum. We have completed tours of the Harvard campus and Fenway Park, and have also visited the Franklin Park Zoo and the Aquarium. To get ourselves moving we have done hikes in the Blue Hills Reservation and completed quests at Boda Borg in Malden.

Essential Questions:
  • How do public spaces and museums influence Boston’s identity?
  • How does physically being in a museum or landmark change the way we learn?
  • Whose voices are highlighted in Boston’s museums and historic sites?
