Gators complete the comeback

The Gators came out of the gate with high energy and so did the Mavericks. Montrose scored the first basket of the game but fouled early on to give Brimmer a chance to put points up on the board. The first two quarters were a back and forth match. However, Alyssa Aslam (’25) came off the bench with two quick three-pointers to fuel a spark of momentum for the Gators. Going into the second half, Brimmer was down by six but revved up their aggressiveness boxing out, attacking the rim, and breaking Montrose’s full court press, scoring 16 team points. With only a few seconds left on the clock in the third quarter, Marianne Alagos (’21) drained an and-one corner three, making it a four-point play. The last quarter was a battle to the end. Leah Bell (’22) and Angeline Nur Dervisevic (’21) both knocked down huge three-pointers to hold the Gators’ lead and Molly McHugh (’21) continued to go up strong under the basket, going seven for eight at the free throw line. With 30 seconds left in the game, Marianne drew a foul and made a free throw to solidify the Gators’ close win over the Mavericks. Five Gators scored, with Marianne leading the team with 17 points and Angeline finishing with 11 points. The Gators play at Landmark on Thursday, February 13th at 4:45pm.
