GATORS CONTINUE WINNING WAYS DEFEATING GANN 3-0

On Wednesday, the Gators traveled to Waltham to face Gann Academy and came away with another shutout victory 3 - 0. The Gators, played without co-captain Tony Wright ’13 due to injury, and started quickly with high tempo play. However, this was the Gators first game of the season on turf and it took the team a while to measure their passes on the fast paced surface. Adrian Oliveira ’13, Kevin Gates ’15, and Aaron Yemane ’14 all had excellent scoring opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Gators got on the scoresheet two minutes before the end of the half. Jeremy Guevara ’13 collected a loose ball and sent a lofted pass over the heads of the Gann defensive line. Adrian used his speed to be first to the ball and brought it onto his right foot and slotted a low shot under the Gann goalkeeper into the bottom corner to make it 1 - 0.

The Gators came out strong in the second half and looked like they would double their lead when co-captain Enzo Landucci ’13 sent Aaron Yemane ’14 through on goal, but the goal was called back for an offsides call. Ten minutes later, Aaron capitalized on a free kick from Stan Barlow ’13 that was not handled by the Gann keeper. Aaron sent a shot between two Gann defenders into the goal. The Gators' final goal was an excellent piece of individual play from Enzo. He received the ball in his own half of the field and went on one of his trademark runs. After beating his fourth Gann defender, Enzo was through on goal with just the keeper to beat. He sent a hard low shot at the goal that the Gann keeper was able to get a hand to, but the ball continued into the net to make it 3 - 0.

The Gators record now stands at 10 - 0 - 1 and earned home field advantage for the MBIL playoffs. The Gators are back in action next week when they travel to Beverly to face second place Waring on Tuesday, October 23. Kickoff is slated for 4:15 p.m.
