The Second Grade Design Program is a cross-curricular experience. Each week Second Graders follow the design process to do at least one of the following: solve engineering problems, create art projects, and/or build three-dimensional models. The Design Projects are always directly related to the second-grade curriculum. The projects extend the students’ thinking, deepen students’ understanding of content, or serve as an opportunity for the students to collaborate and incorporate their peers’ feedback into their work. For example, while the students learn about various Boston landmarks in social studies, the students will create functional Fenway Park or T D Garden-inspired arcade games that they will share their families as part of our annual Cardboard Day.
