Welcome to Winterim 2019!

On their way to becoming global citizens, our Upper School students have the opportunity to explore and engage with the world through Winterim, our signature cultural and service learning program. This March, over 150 Brimmer students will join faculty and administrators on trips to both international and domestic destinations. The curricular aims and foci of each program are as diverse as the destinations themselves: Students traveling internationally will explore the history and culture of Northern India, visit the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia (the first time Brimmer students have visited a Balkan state), intern at the Panda Research Center in Cheng Du, China, embark on a service learning trip to the Dominican Republic, revel in the history of art and architecture in southern France and Italy, and traverse through Shakespeare’s England. And for our groups staying stateside? One will discover the Southwest with an eye towards stewardship while the other will reconnect with Boston through politics and media.

A hallmark of Brimmer’s curriculum and a favorite among students, what makes this biennial program so unique is that the Winterim experience begins in the classroom. Prior to departure, students and faculty meet to research their upcoming destinations, build cohesive travel groups, and define the curricular and cultural context for their chosen program. This level of advanced preparation lays the groundwork for truly meaningful travel experiences.

We will regularly update the 2019 Winterim blog below as photos and details come in from around the world throughout the week of March 11-18, so check back regularly!
