Brimmer comes up short

The varsity boys’ soccer team opened the season with a tough 2 - 0 loss at, reigning MBIL champions, Gann Academy. The game was quite even, with both teams having periods of quality possession and goal scoring chances. Unfortunately, Gann took the lead in the opening ten minutes from a free kick. The Gators’ defensive line miscommunicated their marking assignments, which left Gann’s striker free to make an uncontested header on goal. With a lead, Gann played a more conservative style of soccer sending only two or three on attack. Brimmer made some good passing plays and looked like a cohesive unit, but they just could not manufacture much in the final third of the pitch. Gann’s second goal came in the final ten minutes as the Gators were pushing up the field looking for an equalizer, which left them vulnerable at the back. The Gators will look to earn their first win of the season in the home opener at Orr Field on Friday when they will play host to Marie Philip. Kickoff is set for 4:15pm.
